At the 2024 International Conference on Inclusive Insurance, UNDP will focus on pathways to build financial resilience for low-income communities. UNDP’s sessions will address ways to scale inclusive insurance strategies, from pricing models and supportive insurance policies to agricultural and cooperative insurance innovations.

  1. Pricing Health and Life Insurance Products - a practical tool

    October 21, 2024, 9:00-12:30 UTC/GMT +5:45 hours

    This session, moderated by UNDP Agricultural Insurance Specialist Enock Sing’oei, will present a microinsurance pricing toolkit developed with Milliman. The workshop aims to equip insurers with tools to design affordable, client-focused insurance products for vulnerable populations, focusing on health and life insurance. Attendees will gain insights into the challenges and solutions of microinsurance pricing in developing markets, helping bridge the protection gap for underserved communities.

  2. The Landscape of Microinsurance: bridging gaps, building futures

    October 22, 2024, 11:00-12:00 UTC/GMT +5:45 hours

    This session, including UNDP’s Regional Technical Lead for Asia Pacific Diana Almoro,  will explore trends in inclusive insurance, emphasizing how these products can improve financial security for low-income households. Particular attention will be paid to the importance of scaling insurance solutions to reach underserved populations, supporting their resilience against economic shocks and vulnerabilities.

  3. What does it need to develop inclusive insurance markets in Nepal

    October 22, 2024, 16:00-17:30 UTC/GMT +5:45

    This session will discuss opportunities and barriers for the development of inclusive insurance solutions in Nepal and the region.

  4. The Business Case for the Co-operative and Mutual Models in Inclusive Insurance  

    October 23, 2024, 11:00-12:30, UTC/GMT +5:45 

    This session, facilitated by UNDP’s Regional Technical Lead for Asia Pacific Diana Almoro focuses on the role of cooperative and mutual insurance models in fostering financial inclusion. The discussion will highlight examples from the UNDP-ICMIF Insurance Innovation Challenge, showcasing how these models can support underserved communities by providing affordable, accessible insurance solutions that enhance financial resilience.

  5.  Growing global actuarial capacity to support sustainable economic and inclusive insurance development

    October 23, 2024, 16:00-17:30, UTC/GMT +5:45

    This session will explore the opportunities and barriers to developing inclusive insurance markets in Nepal. The session will examine local experiences and regulatory challenges, offering strategies to build a sustainable insurance market that supports the financial resilience of low-income populations. The discussion, led by by UNDP’s Regional Technical Lead for Asia Pacific Diana Almoro, will aim to identify actionable steps for developing a robust insurance infrastructure in Nepal, benefitting underserved communities.

  6. Financial Resilience towards Climate Adaptation

    October 24, 2024, 10:00-11:00, UTC/GMT +5:45

    The session aims to enhance understanding of climate insurance as a vital tool for achieving development outcomes, examine key principles in government-led climate and pandemic insurance design for low-income populations, and discuss the challenges and opportunities of implementing technology-driven approaches in climate and pandemic insurance solutions.These sessions reflect UNDP’s expanding portfolio of work on financial resilience.
